How Long Does It Take?

Becoming a successful stand-up takes a lot of time and effort.

You have to realize that even the relatively famous comedians often spend most of their lives criss-crossing the country traveling to clubs and performing year-round.

You are constantly trying to hone your skills and your material. In addition, you have to be able to react to the circumstances around you and to adjust your material to the audience.

Overnight success in this industry is extremely rare. More often it takes years of constant performances to generate a reputation to then take it to the next level.

The success path many look at would be a Sitcom. This is very hard to achieve and very few comedians ever make it to that level. The ones that have generally have spent years earning a reputation and developing a character that could be brought as a sellable item to network executives.
